Alot of families wonder if there is a benefit to hiring a live in vs live out nanny. As a mother of 4 children myself, I worked with live out nannies in my own household until just recently. When I became a single mother of 4 it became apparent that I really needed a “copilot” in the home with me to keep things running smoothly with my children and all of their activities. If you are trying to decide between hiring a live in nanny or a live out nanny I suggest you consider the following:
- Do you have room in your home for a live in nanny? At minimum a live in nanny will need her own bedroom and access to a full bathroom in the home. Many live ins prefer a guest house or casita with private entry to the home although this is not a “deal breaker”.
- Will you be comfortable with a non family member living in the house? For me personally, this was something I struggled with. My family and I tend to be very private and when I realized it was time to consider a live in nanny it took some time to get used to having someone else in the home using the kitchen, etc. Fortunately for me I was able to find someone we are all comfortable with!
- Are you able to provide a rough weekly schedule so your nanny has scheduled time off each week? Many families think that a live in nanny will provide alot of flexibility, and that is true however you must be careful not to burn your nanny out! Your nanny should always have 2 days off per week.
There are more things to consider when hiring a live in nanny as this is such a personal placement it is so important to do a “trial week” before making a commitment. I always have my clients work trial days with their potential nanny to ensure that everyone is happy with the position before making it official.
We specialize in the placement of Live in and Live Out Nannies throughout the USA. If you are considering either, please contact us to schedule a free 20 minute family needs assessment! I look forward to hearing from you! Rebecca

Bringing A Nanny Into Your Home As the owner of a large nanny referral agency, I am frequently asked by parents what to look for in potential nanny candidates. While choosing the perfect nanny for your family requires “going with your gut”, there are certain things you should always look for when interviewing potential nanny employees. Focusing on critical skills is the first step and will help you sift through those nannies that wouldn’t work for your family. Some important qualities to consider are: CPR Depending on the age group of the child the nanny would be caring for, CPR could be one of the most important skills to possess. Toddlers and younger children are always putting objects in their mouths and having CPR training could prevent a possible nightmare of a situation. Cooking It’s not enough to know how to whip up a bowl of macaroni and cheese with sliced hot dogs. A child’s attitude and energy level are greatly impacted by what kinds of foods they consume from the moment they wake up. It is a proven fact that children who consume proteins and healthier foods in the morning are more attentive and less emotional throughout the day. Finding a nanny who possesses cooking skills and who makes a practice of preparing meals that will benefit the child is key. Cleaning Children of all ages are
messy regardless of how much you try to drill it into their heads to pick up after themselves. However, as a parent, you know that younger children are more susceptible to helping you clean if you were to make it some kind of game. Before long, it could form into a habit reducing your daily workload. Finding a nanny who can make chores and other tasks fun for children helps ensure your kids develop good habits. Psychology Brushing up on child psychology doesn’t mean enrolling in the first available college course, although having a degree or coursework completed in child psychology or early childhood education would be helpful. Whether it’s on a parenting blog that addresses child psychology

or a child development book, a nanny who knows how to research is worth her weight in gold. A good nanny will invest time and money in these resources, as she knows it’ll help her perform her role better. Listening Most children simply want to talk to someone who is willing to listen. Finding a nanny who is a good listener is key. While finding a nanny requires locating an individual whose personality fits with you and your family. Eexperience and references, knowing CPR, having cooking and cleaning skills, being up on child psychology and parenting research, plus being a good listener are five must-have skills a good nanny should possess. A great nanny agency will assess your family’s personalities and perform a search tailored to your family’s specific needs. In life, there are people that run from tragedy and there are those that face it head on and become stronger. After spending just an hour with Rebecca Howard, I can say with the utmost certainty that she is one of the latter. Rebecca and her husband Steve bought their home on Village Green as new construction back in 2005. At the time, they had young twins, Spencer and Regan, now 8 years old. In January of 2011, Rebecca gave birth to their third child, a son named Jackson, now 10 months old. In March of the same year, just nine weeks after Jackson’s birth, Steve passed away suddenly and tragically. // read more >
COAST CITIES — Bella Bambino Nannies was founded by Rebecca Howard and is the first of two domestic placement agencies formed by her. Howard was born and raised in San Diego where her love of children began at an early age. During high school, Howard worked as a counselor for the Boys & Girls Club and was often asked by the parents to babysit during her off time. While working her way through college, Howard worked as a site coordinator for the Creative Kids Club in San Marcos, where she taught preschool and worked with school-aged children before and after school. It was this experience that catapulted Howard into wanting to become a nanny. // read more >
